Hi to all- Picked up a basket case 1980 CR 80, can anyone give me the factory carb specifications-settings? I picked up a keyster carb kit, need float level spec, needle jet elevation, idle screw setting.. Had severe rust in the tank, amazingly the former owner was running it this way, used a muratic acid and banking soda soak and was successful getting the rust gone, fresh 93 octane fuel and Belray synthetic premix and a new plug and the bike must have picked up 8 horsepower! Pulled the cylinder head off and the little thing still has a standard bore : ) I was very pleased. New friction plates and I am sending the cylinder off for a .20 oversize bore. Has anyone on here ever took a sanding roll and a die grinder to the intake/exhaust ports for a mild smoothing? The factory expansion chamber has no dents and has since been sandlblasted inside and out and treated to a satin black ceramic coating. Did any firm such as DG, FMF or PSI make a aftermarket pipe for the '80 and '81 CR 80? Reeds looked great and the intake boot is crack free : ) . Would it be possible if this machine was at 100% establishment to hang with CR's or KX's up into the late 80's in a flat out drag race? Any help would be appreciated! B. |

Here's an old trick to set that float height: The fuel flow should just stop when the float hanger is parallel with the float bowl gasket surface. On virtually every dirt bike, this will put your float height within the manufacturer's specifications. AND, did you know that the oem rear shocks on the 1980 CR80 are fully rebuildable? I actually found seals, though the manufacturer did make me buy a whole bag of them. If you need 'em, I have plenty left over. Enjoy, Jon |
