how do i remover lower bolt that has the compression adjuster in it? It just spins in place when loosening?

Impact driver or air wrench usually works.

Put an impact driver on it...150 ft/lbs or so should be plenty!

Turn the forktube upside down and place it on a piece of wood on the floor. Press down (compress) as tight as you can on the tube from turning while someone else uses the impact to remove the bolt.

Another great trick is to take a wooden broom handle (minus the sweeper part) and put it into the fork. Turn the fork upside down resting on the wooden handle, then push down and "HIT" it with the impact driver. On a simple damper rod fork the wooden rod will be pushing on the damper rod and hold it in place...

BTW, I know this is an old thread, but in the future if anyone is ever searching they can see several methods to try and help them get their forks apart - actually just used this method on a stubborn V-Max a few months ago that just would not come apart!
