The AHRMA rule book reads that the cr250m Honda came with more than 4 inches of rear wheel travel. This makes it illegal in the sportsman category. If you use the stock shock what modification is most common to limit the travel to 4 inches. Or if you order works, progressive,or olhins shocks do you just ask for AHRMA legal shocks? Also the way I read the rules an aluminum swing arm like the DG unit I saw in the resources area would be legal.Correct? I am just trying to build a bike that would be legal should I ever make it to an event. Most are a long way from the great white north in Canada! EH!
Wow no replies so far.... must be some vintage racers on here somewhere that know the answer.
Thanks Ken

hi--AHRMA in the past would sell u a hard plastic shim to slip over the shock shaft to bring the travel to the 4in limit. i know this is crazy because the stk shock had 4.1 in travel. this kind of stuff is why i quit the club... u can call ahrma to see if they still offer the shims or make ur own. elsinores rule!!!!

Thanks for the reply Hodaka..... was beginninig to think that no one raced their bikes on here. I understand that the AHRMA is strict so that info is valuable. Looks like the hammer and tongs guys are a little more flexable and a good group to run with as well!
Thanks again
Ken

I run works Performance shocks on all my bikes. On my three 74 CR250M's we had works set the shocks up with a spacer that makes the rear end a little taller to help with the front end rake for better cornering. The shocks are also set for 4" of travel to be in compliance with AHRMA.

Works performance eh.... more great info thanks Terry. Anybody know about whether an aluminum swingarm is legal? Have you had any of the frame failures Terry or is your frame beefed up?
Thanks

All three of the 74's I've built I added gussset's to them prior to painting the frames. No failures yet.

Where did you gusset the frame Terry? In front of and behind the foot peg area? Or somewhere else?
