Have you seen the price that these kickers are getting on evilbay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1982-Hon ... enameZWDVW I just got a 1983 CR480 and its got a kick starter but its not real tight at the turn out pivot joint. I remember seeing website of someone overseas selling new ones, anybody got there website. Is the 1982-83 CR480 kick starter the only year bike and model that fits and works good on the CR480. |

The problem you described has some easy fixes that fall well short of having to replace your kick start lever. The easiest would be to drill the knuckle and the lever and press fit bronze shims that provides a tight fit on the pin. The other way would be to weld the pin hole in the knuckle and the shift lever, then retap again providing a close tolerance fit on the pin. Both fixes will tighten up your "kicker" like new. If you are concerned about cosmetics, have the knuckle cad or chrome plated and use a brown then grey Scotchbrite pad followed by 0000 steel wool to clean up the aluminum kick lever. It will look and function like a NOS lever. dogger |

Thanks, I will copy what you have said and see if someone thats a little more mechanical than me can do it. I see you're from Tenn. and have a few vintage bikes. Have you raced with SEVMX. A race near you would be Meadow Creek. We will be racing the new Bremen race track March 21. |

Let me know if you can't find anybody local to "rehab" your kickstarter, I'll do it. I still race current bikes, though I haven't raced the last couple of years because of a racing incident + many days in hospital + wife says you are never getting on those damn thing again. I'm planning to get back into it this season and will be switching from a CRF 450 to a Service Honda CR250. I have also been hearing rumors that Honda is thinking about producing CRs again, I hope they do. I doubt if I will be racing vintage anything for a few more years but I would love to check out the action. If I'm off from work, I will try to make that race on the 21st - sounds like fun. dogger |

Thanks, I may take you up on that offer. The 1983 CR480 that I just got needs lots of work, motor rebuild, forks and shock rebuild, etc. etc. etc., it may be a few months before I even think about getting it race ready. The March 21 race is at the new King's Ranch. Here is the SEVMX website. http://www.sevintagemx.com/ |
