After months of scouring the internet for parts I finally got my 74 MT250 running! What a pain in the ass to kick though. My goodness!

I finally adjusted the points and was able to get spark. I couldn't resist to slap the tank on, fill it with gas and give it a few kicks and voila......power.......and smoke :(.

I took the exhaust off and oil was dripping all over the place. Has anyone heard about this before. Should I just let it burn off or is this a more serious problem?

Thanks for the past (and future help) everyone. This is my first attempt at building something and I can't wait for more!!!

I just rebuilt mine and it smokes and leaks oil like you describe although not as bad as you make yours seem. Its a bad crank seal on mine it allows crank oil to be sucked into the combustion chamber it wont all burn and it gathers in the pipe. Mine isnt hard to kick over and its got a new piston on a fresh bore/hone so you might want to check and see why its hard to kick as it shouldnt be.

Yikes, sounds like a crank seal or worse yet a blown center case gasket.

I had that problem, replaced crank seal and still blowing smoke....center case gasket was shot just below the crank, I hate splittin' cases!!! :(
