Is a 1976 mr175 a four stroke or 2 stroke premix. I know it is a stupid question, but someone told me today that it is a 2 stroke but i told him it was a 4 stroke. So what is it? |

Your MR175 is a two stroke and does not have oil injection. You need to premix two stroke oil with the gas. The XL175 is a four stroke and maybe you are confusing the two bikes. |

You may be thrown off by the fact that you have to fill your oil in a separate tank instead of your gas tank. You can also use regular motor oil in your bike since it has an oil pump and the oil doesn't have to be pre-mixed with the gas. The best way to tell if a motorcycle is a four stroke, other than hearing it run, is the location of the carburetor. A 4 stroke has its carb mounted high up on the head, near the top of the motor. This area of the motor usually has all sorts of strange shapes and less fins than a two stroke. A two stroke mounts its carb at the base of the cylinder, right near where it meets the horizontal flat part of the crankcase. It can be mounted elsewhere as on some kawasakis like on the side of the engine, behind a cover, or even right above the transmission. Sometimes it's best to shrug and say "who cares?" -Todd |
