Interested in what you used for side panel brackets, and also the shifter.I got aluminum brackets from the now defunct Red Racer, but one has broken. Reluctant to use the OEM ones that I have. Is the shifter a folding tip married to the stock lever? |

The side panel brackets are aluminum strips I found at Lowe's by the gutter brackets,I had to double them up to get an appropriate thickness, I am not sure how well they will hold up, I only had one of the original steel brackets that was bent and rusted. I would look for 3/4" aluminum strips, at least 1/8" to 3/16" thick. The shifter came with the bike. I an guessing it was an aftermarket shifter from back then because it doesn't look homemade. Once I get the jetting sorted out I will take it to the track, see if everything stays attached! |

Looks good, what paint did you use on the plastics? I have one more 1980 sitting in the garage to finish, frame is done, but can't muster up the energy to finish it up. |

Keep plugging away, do one small thing each day and it will get done! The plastics are the complete kit from DC plastics. I still had to make the tabs for the o-ring at the front of the side panels, and the front number plate got zip tied on rather than the stock o-ring mounts. I got the tank that way from ebay, it looks like it was painted with thick paint, maybe the flex paint used on bumpers? |
