I'm going to install a 83 CR480 front forx and triple clamps on my 79 CR250. Does everything "fit"? Do I need to change out the stem? How about the axle, spacers and front rim. I want to run my CR250 rim. Will the CR480 double pull brake plate fit my 250 rim as well? Thanks T |

If you use the 1983 triple clamps without changing the steerer tube you will need to put a large washer as a spacer on top of the upper bearing and under the top triple clamp. You might be able to transplant your 1979 steerer to the 1983 lower triple clamp. I did, but I do not believe I have 1983 triple clamps - but some other 43mm kind. If you use the complete 1983 front hub it will - of course - fit the forks and axle. You can lace any rim of the appropriate width and spoke holes to the hub. I went with an Excel. |

Going to press out the stem and install into the 480 triple's but still wondering if there's a way to utilize the 79 CR250 complete wheel. Going to check into axle, bearing's, spacer's, etc. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this. |

You can use the complete 1979 CR250R front wheel / brake set-up with 43mm Showa forks. (I have seen it done by a CalVMX competitor.) You'll need to experiment with the older / newer axles to see which one centers the wheel correctly. The reason I was able to transplant the 1979 steerer was because my recipient 43mm triple clamps hold the steerer with a clamping bolt. My understanding is the 1983 steerer is held in the bottom triple clamp with a form of clip. This may stop you doing what you want to do. |
