I have a couple 23" DID aluminum rims that have minor cracks. I would like to fix the rims to be used on a bike that I trail ride fairly often. How should I go about welding the rims? TIG or MIG? From the inside or outside etc.? thanks, nola_fiddy |

I have been researching this stuff called Durafix, have a look at this video about it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jijW310xvp4 I was on a superbike forum & read about it there, ive not used it & id be keen to hear if any members have ? You can buy the rods on ebay, just type in Durafix. Anyone used this stuff ? Mezo. |

One has to remember that the person in the youtube video is very well practiced in using the Duraflex. It works good for holding hobby projects together or mending things but I wouldn't use it on something like a wheel that could kill me if it failed again in the same area due to not fixing it correctly in the first place. Have someone tig weld it, costs a little more but safety is cheap. BTW, I have tried it, trying to fill holes in the transom of me aluminum boat, not as easy as it looks, you can get the rods at Harbor Freight. |
