Post subject:  MT250 Do I have to use a crankcase gasket??
Hi,
I am going to reassemble the cases on my 74 MT 250. Do I have to use a gasket for correct spacing between the halves (bearings binding up etc.) or could I just use crankcase sealer and thread? We dont want to spend all the money on gaskets.

Well I didnt take your advice and now I may be regretting it :? . I used 1104 I think it is crankcase sealer. The bike runs great and will shift through all gears with the kickstart gear removed (not running) but when its installed the shift shaft arm hits the spring retainer on the kickstart gear and it wont go into second gear, but I can get it into neutral and 1st. It also is more than usual difficult to shift, so I think im squeezing the shift drum a little between the case halves :( . My own stupidity I think. So has anyone ever had this problem before? I think I might be able to do a little grinding and drilling to make it work, but the answer to my own question definently is yes, I do need a crankcase gasket.
