Hi guys, first post here. Just the kind of site Im lookin for. Im a sucker for vintage mx bikes 8)
Anyways I picked up this old cr to either fix and flip or part out.Since I bought it Ive done some research and its not a model high on the list of desirable bikes for resale or parts. But for the money Im not too worried either way. Ive been riding for 40+ years, raced mx for 12, and done offroad and dualsport as well. Ive owned a lot of bikes, but not one of these. I did buy a brand new leftover 84 CR125 and thought it was a great bike. I remember in the fall of 82 a friend bought one of the first 83 cr125's and at the time it was very trick! I rode his and holy crap I thought I was on a factory ride. The 250's at the time looked like it was just as advanced, light/nimble handing.
So about this cr, I got it locally off craigslist. Owners story was that the previous owner ran it on straight gas, no premix. They took the cylinder off and just left it. it looked like it had sat for a while in this state as there was light rust on parts of the cylinder. Upon inspection the cylinder walls look to be in great shape. Unfortunatley they had misplaced the pipe, silencer and piston assembly. I have asked him to try to find the pipe at least, and give him a few more $ for the effort.
More rundown on the bike condition. The bad, rod has a ton of play, needs steering stem bearings, linkage bearings, bars, rear fender, fork seals, cables dont look too good. I may find more problems as I tear the bike down. The good, cylinder is great, so is clutch, rims/wheels, bearings. It seems to shift through the gears fine too. The infamous water pump cover is pitted near the impeller, but not as bad as some of the ones Ive seen. Also the impeller is mint.

Heres the craigslist pic. More pics to come.

Anyone care to comment, have restored one of these or have any parts for sale feel free to reply.

thanks, Bernie

I wish you luck!

I myself bought a bike off craigs for $80 and have just under $200 in it and it's almost ready to start.
