Is it just me or are many of the prices on used bike parts a little high?
Im looking for a few things for an 84 CR250. The prices Im seeing are nuts, $80+ for a pipe, which looks like total junk! $100 for a crank needing rebuild...! Many other examples.
Do people really pay those prices ? What do you think

thanks

I agree. Some prices are nuts. There is not much you can do except not buy or offer the seller less if you see that no-one has bid and his listing is getting stale or wait for a cheaper listing to be posted. This doesnt help though when you need someting in a hurry.

Alternatively, you can post on websites like this one or Mark's Vintage Swapmeet at vintagemx.us, dealing mostly with riders like yourself.

Over the years I have bought a lot of spares for my bike when I saw them at a reasonable price even though I didn't need the parts at the time. It's not too often that I have to buy something in a hurry and am forced into their high price.

Vintage dirt bikes is not a cheap hobby!
Good luck.

I only went to Muddy motors once 5 years ago. He had a rough looking 75 CR125 motor and wanted $300 for it; more than I was willing to pay. Sometimes I use Bent Bike in Langley. They're more street than dirt but still have quite a lot of old parts.
Mostly I buy online and have stuff shipped to Point Roberts. I'm only 15 minutes from the border.

Some ebay sellers park their stuff in their ebay stores at really high buy it now prices just waiting for impatient money bags to come along. It happens, they do actually sell that stuff. With a bit of patience, you'll see more of what you want come down the pipeline, and at more reasonable prices.
Just for fun, scout out a parts bike for what you need, then try selling off the rest of what you don't need. Don't be surprised if you end up getting paid more for the parts you don't want than you paid for parts you did want. Of course, if you do that, then your garage will look like mine, and that's not exactly what everyone's wife wishes for.
Enjoy!
Jon
