Hello,

I bought a 1982 CR480R front end to fit on a XR500 C&J.
The inner bushes and guides got damaged during dismantling (and somebody else had been inside there before). I bought the parts and it turned out that the 43mm fork is actually a 1983.

This is still ok for my project, but I am struggling to find the bush guides.

- Bush guide 51414-KA4-711 or no.9 on the diagram. They are 24mm high and coated inside with teflon or something similar.

Anybody would know where to get these?

At worst, these bush guides look very similar to those on a 1984 CR250. Would anybody know for sure?

Thanks a lot!

Here is a picture of the project as of today (not with the 43mm fork)

here is the link to the photo of the bike http://picasaweb.google.com/ericf318/CJ ... 4566462802
The embedding here does not seem to work for some reason.

Also I have found out that MSRmx.com makes aftermarket service kits for upside down forks. May be if I get one of those for a 43mm fork I can get lucky. Any body has tried that?

Call the folks at RaceTech. They rebuilt my 1983 CR480R forks a while back.

Westernhills took my money and say they have the parts!! Cant wait to see them in the flesh and be certain.
MX-Tech also told me they have them.
Also found one guy in Holland who has the bushes.
Amazing what the internet and the advice of a few folks can do...
Will keep you updated.

Hi Tom, those on the Alibaba page look about right. They are also much cheaper than the OEM ones... If I had seen your post earlier... :)

For info, I never managed to get the back up rings (no.8 on diagram above). I got a set of later bike and ground them to fit.

However,

Can anybody help me figure out how to set the perforated ring that is INSIDE the BOTTOM of the TUBE. This ring has 4 holes on its periphery that can match one hole on the tube (see photo).

I am tempted to align one of the holes with the hole in the tube. Is that what it should be?

Also, that inside ring seems to castellated probably for a special tool. Is that right, where can I get this tool and how to use it?

I suppose that there must be tuning instructions somewhere right?

Thanks

Hi Tom,

would you have a photo of your 82 Kayaba fork?
I have another bike (but many miles away from here) that I believe is fitted with a 82 fork, but I am not sure.
Externally it is different from the 83 Showa fork as the part of the tubes between the triple clamps is not smooth.
I would like to make sure that it is 82 Kayaba fork...

Here it is:
