I am confused. I read the articles from the old dirt bike mag at the Honda-Elsinore website and noticed (in some pictures) that when the cases are split there a spring behind the tranny inside the aluminum cases that looks like the return spring for the kick starter. But if I look at the shop manuals it looks like it is on the outside of the case. What is that spring in the pictures if it is not the kick starter? Also, I plan on using the kick starter, clutch and mainly all the stuff inside the right outer case from a 75 MR250 in my 74 CR250 case. Including the transmission from the 75 MR. Does anyone know if this will NOT work or what components will not work? Thanks Joe |

It's the CR125's 1974-78 that you have to split the cases in order to get to the kick return spring. The 1974 CR250 just remove the right hand side cover, I replaced my kickstart gear with that of a MT 250. I use a 1975 CR250 tranny which bolted right up. Sorry don't know about the MR tranny?? |

your swap should work. Lot of desert racers used the MR transmissions in 75-76 elsinores and I believe it would also work in the 73-74 cases. Clutches are the same in all. Kickstarter and shift mechanism should also work. But despite the fact your MR parts were manufactured in 75, they are all 76 model. MR was a one-year model, that year being 1976 (most model year bikes are actually produced before January of the model year). |
