any one know what shift levers will work on 79 cr250 looking for folding type maybe IMS or something else I have larger IMS foot pegs so probably something a little longer I do not want to use the stock OEM lever I would like to preserve that thanks, Craig

I am working on the same thing, I have a CR500 one which fits the splines but the ben is wrong so I may modify this and reweld it, I will be calling to see my friend today and see what else he has in the shop. I will let you know.

Any CR125 or CR250 shift lever will fit the splines. The splines stayed the same from 73 through the last production CR250 ever made. The trick is to find one with the right bend that is comfortable for you. Most of the later ones stick out too much from the side cases for my taste. There are still aftermarket folding shift levers that were bent specifically for the 78-80 models that I see for sale occassionally. I'll try and peruse some sites this weekend and post if I find one.

The problem is that unlike almost all other models that fit the splines, the 78-80 250 lever curves in from the end of the shift shaft toward the case, so other levers will be farther away from the case and vulnerable. There are aftermarket levers that are straight without any curve, but I don't know the source. Some folks have also used the 82 KTM 250 lever.

use a TRX250R shifter. I am running one on my 80 CR. It is pretty straight, works good i think and real easy to find, probably more aftermarket options than any other shifter made.

I purchased a new shifter that fits my 79 CR250. It has a spring loaded tip and extended length. It worked out to be a little long for me when I changed the footpegs. Let me know if you are interested.
