i'm not positive but i think they are anodized or coated with something. check for cracks most i've seen have them. i would just take some soft scrub and wash them up good. how do they look now do they have rust stains or what

I searched the site for this answer and couldn't find anything so I thought I would ask the question. I have a 79 Cr125 with Original DID 23" and 18" rims. I pulled out the spokes and hubs and washed them up a bit. I took them to a wheel shop th have them "renewed" and he told me he didn't have time... yada yada. I asked a few questions and he basically told me to take an orbital to them and clean them up, paint them and shoot a clear laquer on them. My question is... is this how they came from the factory? I asked him if they were anodized and he said no. How did they come from the factory and how can I get them back to that state. The bike is 95% OEM and includes the Bridgestone's which I seem to remember reading them coming from the factory with. I would like them to be as close to factory as possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

There is a form of finish on them, but not color. I think it just may be a clearcoat or something like that. |

i think its silver anodized. i have a compleat 79 cr 125 with nice wheels and it runs and looks good 995.00 plus shipping

I do aluminum and stainless restoration for a living.The rims are anodized.First the anodizing must be removed using sodium hydroxide in a tank with hot water.Then all the scratches removed and the rim polished.After thats done there ready to be re-anodized.Let me know i f i can help. www.gtlmetalpolishing.com George |

Thanks so much for the info. I did already clean them up and also sprayed them. But if it doesn't last too long, which it probably wont, I will get them entirely redone. Thanks for the help |

Update.... Well, I started to relace the wheel and each time a spoke touched the rim, the paint ended up have a mark on it. Well I ended up finding a place that anodizes and they will be done in a week. Ironically I played hockey for this company's team, but never new they were into plating. Got myself a great deal on having them redone. Bike is about 2 weeks away from the camera.... Thanks for the answers I needed. |

great can't wait to see it. i'm doing a 79 cr125 also, i need to find time to paint the frame and then it's ready to asemble. mine's not going to be a stocker it has 480 forks and front brake, excel gold wheels and a dg kit, head, cylinder, carb and pipe its also going to the dirt when its done
