I got my frame powder-coated at Olympic Powdercoating in Santa Ana, CA (714) 979-2233. The color was RHL 3020 which is a little deeper red than Tahitian Red, but does match the Red Racer replica plastic near perfectly. This is the color Vintage Iron uses for their Maico restorations. I will most probably get the motor and tank powder-coated too. My spraying skills and experience are very limited... It cost $130 for bead-blasting and powder-coating, but I had a pipe and some hubs done at the same time. Get everything done in a batch it is cheaper and easier for everyone. Scott Steger (previously with Red Racer) did some restorations in a very slightly deeper red than Tahitian Red. It is Dupont B98531F which I think is known as Chrysler Red. You can probably still see the photos are their web site. Now Red Racer also offers Tahitian Red paint and powder-coating. Check the powder-coat is still available. At one point their supplies were exhausted. Someone else does painting using PPG OMNI MTK 60945 Russet Orange. This is more of an orange-red like Tahitian Red. He spends a huge amount of time on "doing it right" prep-wise and the results are first class. Take your pick, and good luck! |
