What is a good cheap but effective way to clean and if possible seal my gas tank? if it makes a difference, it's a premix 2-stroke. |

Do not use a sealer! I use a method that I have used on three separate gas tanks. If the gas tank has substantial, flaky rust then first you need to fill it with a pile of nuts and bolts then shake it up for a while to loosen all that you can (you can wrap it in pillows and blankets then stuff it into your dryer on the air fluff setting and let it run for an hour) If your tank is just basic surface rust then you can skip this step. What you need is: Navel Jelly (phosphoric acid concentrate), A massive jug of WD40, and maybe a large quantity of nuts and bolts plus a large container to dump your waist. Get Navel Jelly from your local hardware store (ace hardware has it where I live) It is a phosphoric acid concentrate which eats rust. Read the directions on how to mix it, I usually put a little more than the bottle says. After mixing it add it to your gas tank, make sure its full to the top then shake it up by hand(be sure to seal al your holes) I let mine sit for a couple hours then dump it out. You might have to do it more than once. Immediately after you need to fill the tank with WD40 or it will rust again within an hour because the tank is not protected. Shake the WD40 around to make sure ever little nook in the tank is coated. It would hurt to let the WD40 sit in tank for a couple hours as well. Before you dump it shake it up one more time. Get as many drops out as you can and let it just drip dry. That’s it; fill it with fuel and you’re good to go.

|
