Ok after reading about them I took the plunge. Bought a 82 CR250 triple clamp and had a 79 steering stem pressed into it. Got new bearings. Bought a 1983 CR480 forks, Wheel and Brake Plate and Axle. I am waiting for some Race Tech parts, but I had to put the forks on and the wheel, only to find out that the 83 axle will not fit, oh it screws in, but only 1 or 2 threads come out for the nut to attach to. The guy that sold me the axle and brake plate claims I have an issue with the 82 triple clamp and that is what is throwing off the fitment of the axle. If this is indeed the problem, that sucks!! |

My question is, does the axle only thread into the left fork leg, or should there be a axle nut on there also? |

The left-hand fork leg is threaded and when the axle is screwed all the way in you should have maybe 1/2" of the axle sticking out. Do the axle up, then pump the forks, then tighten the axle clamp on the right-hand side. |
