Restoring a '79 CR250R for a friend. What are the best shocks for the money? Are they readily available? Been searching, but having trouble finding much other than Progressive. Thanks! Terry |

Personally I like the Fox Airs, 17.5 inch. Super adjustable for the rider. A bit pricey though, I have about $600 in mine, but was well worth it. |

No doubt the Fox shocks would be bad ass, but cost & availabilty is a problem. Ohlins would be awesome, but it's looking like nothing is available for the '79 CR250R. Is this true? Terry |

Terry, Works Performance are available in the 17.5" units with progressive springs. You'll have around $300 in them out the door (Shocks, springs & hardware). Stock 1980 were about the best OEM's on the bike (78-80). They are marginal at best, and usually need rebuilding. I have a set of S&W 17.5" shocks in the parts box. Shafts need to be reworked, seals and so forth. If you want them & have someone to rebuild them, I'd let them go for $25 + actual shipping. Again, these are core units that would need a rebuild. Jim Jim, I appreciate your offer of the S&W's, but this is my buddy's bike I'm restoring and he's looking for something new I guess. You're saying a pair of new Works Performance shocks for a '79 Cr250R would only come to about $300. I thought they would be more like double that. Are you sure you didn't mean Progressive brand shocks? Terry |
