Restoring a '79 CR250R for a friend. What are the best shocks for the money? Are they readily available? Been searching, but having trouble finding much other than Progressive. Thanks!

Personally I like the Fox Airs, 17.5 inch. Super adjustable for the rider. A bit pricey though, I have about $600 in mine, but was well worth it.

No doubt the Fox shocks would be bad ass, but cost & availabilty is a problem. Ohlins would be awesome, but it's looking like nothing is available for the '79 CR250R. Is this true?

Terry,

Works Performance are available in the 17.5" units with progressive springs. You'll have around $300 in them out the door (Shocks, springs & hardware). Stock 1980 were about the best OEM's on the bike (78-80). They are marginal at best, and usually need rebuilding. I have a set of S&W 17.5" shocks in the parts box. Shafts need to be reworked, seals and so forth. If you want them & have someone to rebuild them, I'd let them go for $25 + actual shipping. Again, these are core units that would need a rebuild.

Jim,

I appreciate your offer of the S&W's, but this is my buddy's bike I'm restoring and he's looking for something new I guess.

You're saying a pair of new Works Performance shocks for a '79 Cr250R would only come to about $300. I thought they would be more like double that. Are you sure you didn't mean Progressive brand shocks?
