A resent post suggested replacing trans oil with Automatic trans fluid to help reestablish their seal.
Is this true?
If so, how long should it be left in?

Thanks

I would imagine that ATF has some additive to keep seals soft/pliable, but I not sure that would bring a bad seal back to workable condition. There are some "Snake Oil" type products at auto parts stores that may or may not work. It may need to be run in the trans for awhile and I'm not sure that would be a good thing for a manual trans. (?) Any transmission experts out there?

ATF makes seals swell but it's only a "slight" thing. If you have a bad main seal that is sucking oil - it's probably too late. Usually the ATF fix was reserved for a fork that was barely weaping or something like that.

Good luck - let us know if it works. BTW, you need to find a "Suzuki" guy that has a 1989-92 to tell you which ATF to use - as one works well with our clutchs and one type burns them up.

Just run a Yahoo search for RM250 ATF and see what comes up.

Peace...
