I am installing a new piston and rings in a 1977 Honda CR125. My bottom ring goes on fine and moves easy. The top ring is very tight and does not sit in the groove. Almost like the top ring is to thick. What can I do about getting a better fit?

Thanks

You need to find a ring set that matches your piston. There are a few different pistons out there and you have to use the matching ring set.

I was using a stock Honda piston. After messing with it a few hours I tried another new piston. The rings fit as they should on this one.

Kind of odd as both pistons are boxed with the same part number.

The CR125 piston and ring sets are different from the MT.
The MT rings are thicker than CR.
Maybe someone mixed up the parts in the boxes.
