Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and looking for some advice.

I ran across a 74 MT250 for sale in my area. I have never restored an old dirt bike before but I was thinking this might be one that I would consider giving it a shot. The seller says it runs and drives, I have not seen it yet. The one picture makes it appear to be reasonable intact. I don't see any turn signals but it's hard to tell what else is missing / broken from the pics.

So I am looking for some general advice on these bikes. As projects go would they be considered difficult? Are there parts available? Anything in particular to look for as a go/no-go? The guy is asking $650 for the bike. Don't know where that stands in the prices. I don't want to invest a bundle as this would be a first project and I am not looking for it to be showroom quality restore job. Maybe ride it a little and move on to another project.

I saw one restored and they are really nice looking bikes.

Any guidance from the experts here would be great!

Thanks much!

Hey Skyhawk.....

I had an Mt250 years in about 75, bought it from a friend. It was a good bike, my first dirt bike and it was a lot of fun. As far as what to look for, well , its a Honda so it doesnt come with any built in surprises. I think the thing to look for it to see if what is there is enough for you, that is, do you need turn signals....it came with them, a headlight....it came with one. It was a roadable bike so all the stuff that was there in 74 was headlight, turn signals front and rear, taillight, tool kit under seat if I recall correctly and a muffler on the pipe. I stripped all the heavy stuff of it....turn signals, battery and as much as I could to lighten it up a little. All in all a decent little bike, I wish I still had it.

So you fly a 172?
