Vintage Dirt Bike Q & A

Here is the problem...I simply can not locate a new alloy rear sprocket for this bike. Ebay and a multitude of vendors who sell MX parts are happy to sell me flat sprockets...with a too wide bolt hole pattern...all in alloy, but my 1976 CR 250 M needs a dished sprocket...Who has these things? I would even buy a plain old steel one if it was new. I would really like to avoid spacers to move the sprocket out...but may be that is where I am going.

Can anyone help or offer advice?

Hi Mike,
try to find a used rear sproket from a '76 250MR. It's the same dished sproket and easier to find on ebay !

I've just had a look on your blog... you did a terrible mistake when you decided to cut out your old rear tire... wich was a original and specific Bridgestone tire specialy and only made for '76 250 CRM bikes... did you notice the unusual asimetric ruber studs patern ???
I did the same mistake on my bike.....

pm65gt....Thanks for the quick response. One guy has contacted me to offer a NOS steel sprocket...and actually the one I have is just fine...barely used in fact. What I really want is an alloy sprocket...don't need it...just want it!.

Between the steel sprocket and the massively heavy muffler I think the rear end of my bike is about 10 lbs (4kg) over-weight.

About the tire...I'm sure it was very trick back in the day but with the center of the tire worn down to nothing it had very little utility...certainly nothing that I would want to go riding on. I just replaced it with a 4.50 Maxxis desert knobby. There will be no lack of traction with that mounted on the back.
