So I cleaned up the carb on my 75 Mr175 that I got as a sort of basket case (all the parts are there and assembled in the general form of a dirtbike, but it's a basket case). Piston is free and seems to have compression, so I decided to remove the duct tape that was on the tank, give her some gas and see if she'll start....however, one side has bondo-covered holes, and on the other side, there were rags stuffed in the holes and the duct tape was holding the rags in place!

The asking prices on ebay are insane! Anyone got one to sell? Doesn't have to be great; just hold gas...

You might want to rig up some kind of small temporary tank for now, in case things don't go well with the motor.

Perhaps you already know the MT125 and CR125M tanks fit your bike too, which gives you a few more options on eBay. I don't think you'll find a usable-as-is (i.e., not rusty inside, or coated) OEM tank there for less than $100.

I forgot to search for those too. I will try that. I think the cheapest one I found would need a thorough cleaning on the inside, but I am not so concerned how the outside looks. First, I will drag it to my buddy's bike shop and hook it up the 'IV' as I like to call it. Thanks for the advice.

A good tig welder can maybe repair it. The one on my '74 CR125 was rusty at the bottom and after grinding the rust, I found myself with many small holes. My friend who do tig welding, did a nice repair job to it. If the hole is too big, a small piece of metal can also be welded.

It runs! Hallelujah. Needs a little tuning but it runs. So I have a tank but it's quite rusty, so I am going to clean it. How does the petcock come off? Doesn't seem to have screws holding it on....? Also need to find a left side switch housing as the kill switch wire is just hanging loose.
