I went through the same thing except on a 83 CR480. I had never laced a wheel.

Couldn't find any "conversion" numbers or information, that would let me save some money by buying on the free market. I wasn't paying 200+ bux per rim. That was not in the budget!

I finally went with Tom at Full Circle Racing. 2/3rds the cost of Buchannons Excells, plus Buchannons do not have gold Excells.

Good guy to deal with.

if you buy usual ready drilled rims you will get problems.
these rims are made for modern bikes with a small hub diameter, they do not match to the old drumbrake hubs.
the spoke angle is different. and often the nipple dia. is larger.
an undrilled rim has to be fitted to your hub.
i have made this experience.

and a wider rear rim gives you no advantage to the original 2.15 size.

I got an Excel front rim and had it laced with heavy-weight spokes using Anaheim Wheel Works. Been bullet-proof. I would say this is something you want to have done for you, if only to address the potential need to drill the rim.
