Well my coil lead broke off the 1979 CR125. Replacements are 150-200 bucks, NOS. Way out of my price range. After a bit of research, the 89/97 CR125 seemed to be simular. The genaric version is about $16, Honda unit is about $50. Cheap enough so I went for it.

The bike is up & running!

The replacement is a new genaric '89 - '97 Honda coil. I was able to make a short harness from an old CDI harness to mate with the earlier CDI box. The post spacing on the coil is a direct bolt on for the '79 CR125 frame. This should also hold true for the CR250 as well.

The positive wire on the coil harness is a round female push on (brass). The wire from the coil is the male end. By making a jumper harness nothing is cut on the CDI or the new coil.

Fired in about 1/2 a kick.

Parts list: Rubber 2 pole Honda wire from an old stator
1 round crimp on ring terminal
1 female brass terminal end
Heat shrink wrap
1989 to 1997 Honda coil (or genaric)
