I have a 1980 Honda CR250R with a very hard clutch pull. I have new cable and I have checked for binding on cable and lever. Bearing seams good on clutch rod in engine. Any ideas? Is this normal for this model? |

I wonder if the fingers are worn that hold the fiber plates in place. Those fingers should be flat but over time the plates can wear grooves at every plate, that can be 6 or 7 indents on each side of each finger. If you have this try a large flat hand file. Position it so you remove these grooves on the front side AND back side on each stroke at 180 degrees from each other. Take your time and you will be good. I have done this many times on many bikes but it may only work one time per basket. Rick |

Thanks Rick, I normally do this to every bike I build but on this occasion I bought the bike supposedly race ready. So I will go thru the engine to see what I actually have and polish all moving clutch components and file the basket as you suggested. |

It was the simplest fix possible ,the cable. I was told that all that was new but upon further inspection not so. Now just wondering what other surprises lay in wait for me. Two or three races ought to reveal more secrets. |
