I have a 76 MR250, I just noticed that the serial #s on frame #1005715 and motor #1005765. Are they supposed to match, or did Honda mix them up.

I think Honda made a number of extra engines during production runs (possibly for warranty replacement and/or spares), so the frame & engine numbers never match; at least, I've never heard of them matching. Both my Hondas' original engine / frame numbers are way off.

There is always alot on confusion on Honda serial numbers. I have heard of several mini trails having matching numbers but it was always early production numbers, the more they built the farther off they were. My 69 Z50 is 5,500 different between frame and engine,I'm the original owner and luckily both engine and frame numbers are on the bill of sale because I have had people tell me thats too far off. I'm guessing my MR 250 is an early production since the engine is 1 higher than the frame. I also have a CT70 that is 283 off and a TL125 that is 306
