The thin bearing that surrounds the shift drum appears to be permanently affixed to the drum. The shop manual says to drop the entirety of the transmission all at once (CS, MS, drum, forks) into the right engine case. This means the drum’s bearing is supposed to just drop into the case simultaneously with the counter shaft and main shaft when re-installed. I say bullshit in my case. The drum bearing is a very tight fit and will not just drop into place. Can anyone shed any light on just how one is to accomplish this???? Thanks! Al |

What engine and year ? If 78-80 CR250 or 79-80 CR125 I install the main shaft & counter shaft assemblies together. I then fit the drum which should drop in, on the 250 you will need to move the sprung loaded drum stopper out the way whilst doing this Then locate the selector forks onto the gears and slip in the selector rods. |
