Hello, we are restoring an '80 Elsinore cr125r, but it does have serious sun-bleaked plastics. Can anyone tell us what's the best way to get the original color a little back? Thanx |

I doubt that there is much you can do about the original plastic unless you rub it down and spray it with Tahitian Red paint. Or you can just replace it with replica plastic. Both are available from http://www.red-racer.com. I have heard that a heat gun on a low setting can get rid of white marks caused when you deform a fender in a crash, but in your case the UV in the sunlight has bleached the red dye in the plastic. Good luck! |

Go to the CR Reference forum and read the Fixing "Stressed" Plastic Coloration. You can also use a product called Plastic Renew. It's made by PC Racing. Do a search on the web to find sources. A lot of motorcycle shops also carry it. I've used it and it works pretty good. Just be sure to apply decals before applying the Plastic Renew. |
