Post subject:  need advice on 79 cr250

hello , i just baught a neat old 79 cr250 it seems to be in good shape mechinacly, the fenders are a little faded and the seat is torn (foam good).the clutch leaver is a little bent but other than that it seems to be solid . starts and runs good . i have never done a restore project and realy dont know where to start . can the plastic be polished out . or will it need to be replaced ? can the silencer be repacked ? is there still parts available for these older bikes ? were do i start . any and all help most welcome . thanks in advance

Read everything you can on this forum and the one liked to the http://www.red-racer.com site (seriously!). OEM parts and after-market parts are generally available, although expect to do some shopping on the swap meets and eBay. You can get a cover for that seat from Vintage Elsinore at http://www.elsinores.com and Red Racer has replica plastic. You might be able to repair the current fenders with Plastic Renew. Email me and I will get you hooked up with a manual, parts catalog and a bunch of other stuff you will need. What are your plans - play bike, historic racer, restoration?
