I am beginning to renovate a 1976 CR125 Elsie and wish to powdercoat the frame red. Can someone tell me what the paint code is for Honda red or what the name is please? |

The color is Tahitian Red; Factory code R-23, Color-Rite code 2095. Correct matching of this color has been the subject of many a thread on this forum, and over at http://www.red-racer.com on the CR-Talk forum. Personally I am using a powder coat called RHS2030 from Olympic Powdercoating in Santa Ana, CA and find that it matches both the replica Red Racer plastic real well, and the NOS frame parts I keep as reference. |

Michael Thanks for the info ref paint match. My frame now matches exactly the panel set I bought from DC Plastics. The powder coat used was RAL3020. Shes beginning to look great thanks Ruairi |

now you have done it - I bet this thread gets going!!!! Michael - Hi again - can anyone tell me the maker of the paints you refer to? I am about to do frame, motor etc on a 78 - best and closest pwodercoat I can find at the moment (and was advised it is pretty close) is the Dulux Signal Red. If I know the manufacturer of the ones you refer to maybe I can chase them here in Oz? cheers guys regards Rossco |

RAL3020 must be a standard international colour. Michael lives in the US and I am in England and we both seem to have had the same joy. All things being equal you should be able to get it where you are. I am not sure where Michael bought his plastics. Mine were from DC Plastics through eBay although the guy does have a web site. Hopefully Micheal will pick up this thread soon and answer your question |

It checked the chip I got from Olympic Powdercoating here in Santa Ana (714 979 2233) and it was in fact RAL3020. My plastics were from Red Racer before it's demise. In general terms this is the "darker red" route rather than the "orange-red" route to Tahitian Red. I am about to re-fresh my race bike where the challenge will be to find a heat-resistant spray paint for the engine to match. I have a second bike which I plan to restore and will attempt to paint to match a NOS clutch cover and a NOS rear engine mount I have as templates. I will say that the engine mount is a very high gloss bright red nothing like the orange-red original bikes look like after 25 years. The clutch cover looks very much like what one would expect but it is very matt compared to the frame. I just got hooked up with a sprayer, powdercoater, blaster in San Juan Capistrano who does work for another enthusiast in San Clemente. I have seen his bikes and they are 1st class so I will let everyone know what happens. Finally there is a Cardinal Industries powdercoat recommendation from Scott Steger over on the Vintage Factory message board. Check it out. |

How bout some input on a 74CR125M, like the color code for the silver/green? Found some spraybombs on a site but really wouldnt want to use those for my project. Another question is for an original resto would powder coating the frame deduct from the looks of it or should I just re-paint it as per original? Finally got my frt number plate and side covers tonight on auction and am somewhat relieved as I thought they were gonna be impossible to locate although they are already painted, I need the codes for my tank and fenders. |
