Im trying to pull the cover off the generator on a 76 MR250. Does anybody know where to find a puller that will fit? Or will some generic puller work? thank you |

You need a 20mm x 1.5 internal ( external on the puller--for internal thread on the flywheel) right hand thread puller. Any honda dealer will have one and most other cycle shops should have one. Or you can buy on online, like here: http://www.repairmanual.com/motorcycles ... /444/10463 I use one with an air impact wrench and it just pops the flywheel off. I recommend against gear puller, or you can mangle the windings on your stator. |

I have a 2 jaw puller that I use to remove side case bearings on rear differential center sections. Got it from snap-onbut, everyone has them. I was able to go through the access holes and center the puller on the crankshaft. tightn down the puller and smack it with a hemmer and POP off came the flywheel. BUT, mitch is right!!! be careful or you can/will hit the field windings and ruin your day. |

Don't forget that Honda still is in business and can get many common parts, bulbs, spokes, points etc. I was missing my MR tool kit, my dealer was able to get all but 1 wrench. Flywheel puller 07933-3950000 was still advailable last year when I needed one and you don't have to pay shipping. He also gives me 10% off because I supply the part #'s |

Get the Honda puller ! I finally did and it worked like a charm! I bought 2 different pullers that I purchased from descriptions like the one: http://www.repairmanual.com/motorcycles ... /444/10463 They do NOT work. May work for a CR, but not the MR with a deeper spindle. Also, you need external threads on the puller, not internal, as the puller threats INTO the mag. Also, Steahlyoffroad.com has a "engine lock up tool" that threads into the head, to stop the piston, makes flywheel removal easier. Better than the old rope trick. Nice people to deal with too! |

The one I bought was not a honda, but bought it at honda dealer. Worked great with impact wrench. The great thing about the impact wrench is you can ust barely hold the MR flywheel with your left hand and hit the wrench. The flywheel barely torques at all and you don't have to stop piston. I first tried it with a ratchet and strap wrench on the flywheel. That didn't work at all. |
