Post subject:  Exhaust pipe painting

I have an fairly decent pipe I want to repaint so it does not look out of place on my bike which I am renovating.

Can exhaust pipes be powdercoated or is there another process I should follow due to the exhaust heat?

What would you experienced renovators do to make a pipe look great?

Its a dumb question but I want to get it right.

many thanks for any help.

Powder coat is not good enough for the high temps on the exhaust.See if you can have it media blasted and ceramic coated in a low gloss black.I find this is close to factory finish, but a lot more durable...If you want a cheaper alternative try using a paint stripper and some steel wool with a high temp paint from someone like Eastwood.eL

You could also get the pipe ceramic coated. Its the stuff that top fuel dragsters coat their headers with. You can see an example in the "My Bikes" page on http://www.honda-elsinore.com. My '83 CR250R has this treatment.
