Gents, 33 year old newby who is jumping into his first resto project on a Elsinore 125 with the old man. Coupole of questions: 1. can anyoone tell me where I can check Honda VIN numbers (frame and engine) to see what year it is? 2. Anyone know what the bike "looked" like? I am looking to find paint for the engine, pipe, and frame for a 73/74 Elsinbone 125. I think they were all different (frame=gloss, engine=semi-gloss, pipe=flat) but am unsure. Any help is appreciated! Reubes TPF |

I always go here for identifying Honda models. http://100megsfree4.com/honda/ Pretty sure the first couple of years all CRs had black powder coated frames. The CR125 went to red frame one year after the CR250 ~1978 or so. |

No powder coating in the 70's. |

Now that you mention it... Quick topic drift. Just saw an "American Chopper" episode where they say the heat from powder coating will ruin a chrome moly frame. I've also heard chrome plating a frame causes "Hydrogen Embrittlement". Looked around a bit on the net and can't find any hard data to support either of these claims. |
