Gents,

33 year old newby who is jumping into his first resto project on a Elsinore 125 with the old man. Coupole of questions:

1. can anyoone tell me where I can check Honda VIN numbers (frame and engine) to see what year it is?
2. Anyone know what the bike "looked" like? I am looking to find paint for the engine, pipe, and frame for a 73/74 Elsinbone 125. I think they were all different (frame=gloss, engine=semi-gloss, pipe=flat) but am unsure.

Any help is appreciated!

I always go here for identifying Honda models.

Pretty sure the first couple of years all CRs had black powder coated frames. The CR125 went to red frame one year after the CR250 ~1978 or so.

No powder coating in the 70's.

Now that you mention it... Quick topic drift.

Just saw an "American Chopper" episode where they say the heat from powder coating will ruin a chrome moly frame.

I've also heard chrome plating a frame causes "Hydrogen Embrittlement".

Looked around a bit on the net and can't find any hard data to support either of these claims.
