Over-tightening the two cylinder nuts could warp the throat enough to bind the slide.
I would remove the carb and run the slide by hand to see if it is still binding or to locate[feel] the exact spot where it is binding.
Inspect the inside of the carb throat and slide, for shiny wear spots. Locate the alignment tab, on the exhaust side of the carb throat. Make sure it is there. The slide aligns and only goes in, one-way.

I always install the cable and test the slide, by turning to full-throttle and releasing a couple of times-listening for the slide-hitting-bottom slam, before bolting to the engine.
Also, this way, you know for sure that the slide isn't sticking and that it was installed the correct way.
That way, you can tell if anything has changed, after installing.
After installing the carb(before starting), turn to full-throttle a couple of times, then release - listen for the telltale slide-hitting-bottom slam.
