I'm attempting to get a pe 175 up and running that had a broken piston which I also found to have a cracked cylinder. I have found an rs 175 cylinder on ebay, it looks the same, but is it? Also, I only partially split the case and damaged some gasket while I was at it. I found a big gap at the bottom of the crankcase and filled it with silicone. It didn't look like anything was broken, but it didn't look like gasket would cover it because it would have only been supported on one side. Here is a pic,

As for the crankcase fix, I recommend "Marine Tex" to fix it. It is super strong, will withstand hammer blows, won't breakdown from oil, gas, or water, and it's sandable and paintable. I've repaired holes in the bottoms of cranks with it, sanded and painted it, and you can't tell it was ever damaged. Best yet, it holds up after years of use. You can get it at most any marine store like Boaters World or West Marine.

What year is your PE? Only the top of the cylinder is the same part on RS and PE and only for the 1980-1984. The cylinder itself is different for the RS and PE. I believe the RS has a lower exhaust port, maybe the pipe could be modified but it seems like a lot of trouble. Check with Brenden at Bike Bone Yard (http://www.bikeboneyard.com/) for a real PE cylinder or wait till one comes up on ebay. 1980-1984 PE175 all use the same head though.

Here's my 1982 RS175: http://www.bikepics.com/members/mshade/82pe175/
