i recently purcased a ts 400 the dual purpose model. it has a auto lube pump that injects the two stroke oil into the engine. it broke so i replaced it, i dont trust it so i want to just mix gas and leave no oil in the tank for the auto lube pump. first what gas to oil ratio do i use and second will this burn up the pump if there is no oil in it and will it hurt the motor. i am new to old bikes so any help will be great.

thanks

Be careful when changing from using the oil pump to premix on early Suzuki's because on quite a few models they also used the oil pump to lubricate the main bearing on one side.

Check how many oil feeds it has from the pump, if it only has one and it feeds the cylinder via the inlet you will be ok but if it has another pipe going to the crank you will need to modify the crankcase to lube the main bearing and I think there is a tin washer which needs removing from the crankshaft.

If you do away with using the pump either remove it and make a plate to go over the hole or it is possible there will be a small nylon block in the end of the shaft which sits in the oil pump drive, removing the nylon block will stop the oil pump from being driven.

thank you for that information. i greatly apreciate you reading my post and replying to it. i checked and it has two oil feed lines and i talked to the suzuki dealer and he said it would be more work to change it over. for now i will leave it just the way it is i just will watch the oil level. the bike only has 800 miles on it so i hope the pump still has life in it. if the pump breaks and i find out in time will it hurt the motor.
