I'm looking for some suggestions on a tried and tested method for cleaning out a 43 year old petrol tank that hasn,t had petrol in it for a number of years. Overall good condition but has a light coating of rust inside.

I rinse them out with water then fill with cheap vinegar. And a couple hand fulls of nuts and bolts.
(Screws can get stuck in the seams) Shake often. Strain vinegar every couple days through a large rag
over a 5 gallon bucket. Pour back into tank, repeat for about a week. Has always worked for me.
