In the close up picture that shows your frame tag on the head tube, where did you get those trick mounting bolts/washers for the gas tank? They look like the same ones used on the Mugen and Works bikes.

Progress continues to be made on the CR80. Got front tire cleaned up nicely and re-tubed. Rear tire appears tobe holding air for now. Unfortnately have a broken spoke... :? Still not sure why all the spokes have a little wire twisted around them where they cross on rear rim....anybody got a clue? I have done this with a single broken spoke before temporarily but not to ALL of them?

Still waiting on chain and sprockets--new Wiseco first overbore piston came yesterday. Need to come up with new rear axle--old one was messed up pretty badly and corroded in place so i finished damaging it...oh, well a little carnage is expected.

ALso ordered new tank and side plastic decals from Vintage Factory last night. They should look good on the tank. Removed seat coverand going to have a friend who is real handy with vinyl and sewing machine use it as a pattern to make a new one for me--might have him make a couple while he is at it. Then will make a stencil to do the "Honda" and the "CR80" gaphics on the side with white and red vinyl dyes...

Need airbox cover yet...?

Anyways here is most recent pic. Enjoy--Doug

if a spoke is broken it will be kept at it´s place. otherwise it can damage the bike or hurt the rider.

You'll like riding it when you get it running, I have more fun on it than some of my big bikes. I think my 1980 CR80 is a Japanese model, my tank warning stickers are only in Japanese, no English visible. I am close to the Ft. Bragg army base, so maybe a serviceman picked it up.

Got graphics in from Vintage Factory--they look great! Applied them Thur evening and they look even better on the tank! Still looking for side panels....will post pics tonight when get back in town.

Also got tire removed from rear rim and will remove all spokes inc the broken two and will repaint rear hub, polish spokes, replace two broken ones, then re-lace rear rim. Rim wrap was all twisited in there--suprised it had not torn up the tube!!!

Have to also rethread rear axle as it was corroded in place and I damaged the threaded end slightly by having to beat it out initially. Then can put rear tire/hub/wheel back on.

Also got the front brakes re-assembled and new cable installed--will do the throttle and clutch next.

Will basically be done with rolling chassis at that point and can start cleaning engine up--hoping to be able to repaint WITHOUT tearing it down, using rattle can. With both side covers off (metal and plastic) I think I can mask it off well enough to do so pretty well. Will see.

Here is pic tonight of tank graphics and front wheel/new brakes/brake cable installed.

Also got rear rim un-laced and cleaned up. Will repaint hub this week while waiting on new spokes--turned out only needed one inner spoke and one outer spoke--all 36 of the nipples were still good and reusaeable as were the other 34 spokes...will re-lace spokes, new tube and remount tire and finally have a roller...

I am having a seat cover made from matching vinyl by a friend who took old one apart to use as a pattern then I have made a stencil to dye the CR80 logo on the side--I think it will come out nicely--thanks for the tip on www.mxm though.

Finally got the replacment spokes in the rear wheel last night and got it trued up @ 98%--will leave it like that for a now and roll it a little then recheck it. I also had to get the rear axle re-threaded as the end got messed up due to it being SOOOO corroded inside the wheel and having to tap then hit then whale on it--the nut slipped in the threads--I ran by buddies machine shop on way to work just now and ran a tap over it to fix--and will pick up a crown nut tomorrow--unfortunately themotorcycle shop is closed Thurs-Sun for Thanksgiving holiday re: remounting rear tire and new tube so wont get that down til next week and make a roller out of it finally.....

And for what its worth, I picked up a nicely preserved 1987 Kawasaki KD80 (like a KE100 but everything smaller) on Saturday--just needs a carb. Kind of a unique and more rare bike anyways--for the 9 yr old to ride whilst the CR80 rises from the ashes.....D

Got the motor fully cleaned up and bottom end back in bike and have a solid mic on the cylinder within stock specs--so am going to just hone and run the new stock spec Wiseco (49.50mm) that came in a box with bike...will put clutch cable in and get seat cover on and be 90% back together. Have to change trans oil also then try to fab an airbox cover for it--thinking I can use gutter plastic (black) and a heat gun to mold one then use a snall bungee to replace stock rubber one.

Anybody got a pic of a stock 80-81 CR 80R airbox with the lid/cover installed as well as removed from a couple views so I can see how it fits? The manual is very vague on this issue....thanks D

After looking at the partial pics in the manual that show the airbox lid, thinking I can use some thin black gutter plastic material and a heat gun and form a lid. Pics will help me do it right

Appreciate it--Merry Christmas--!

Sorry about the snow--it was about 65 degrees F here today in Alabama--9-yr-old son rode the KD80 around the field all afternoon--was his first day with a clutch--went well.

thanks D
