I am replacing the shift shaft in my 80 cr250, the splines are in pretty bad shape. WIll a shaft from a 78-79 bike fit as well?

Thanks!

I thought I could help because as far as I was aware they are the same item's, however just checking the part number the 79 came at as 24610430000 and the 80 as 24610467000.
On that basis they may not be interchangable though I can't see what the difference is.

they are interchangeable.
the right one has a circlip and a washer(not shown)
the left only a washer pressed on the spindle.

the parts catalog doesn´t show this difference. :?

many parts of the bottom end have such minor changes but can be used in all three years.
the partnumbers are no help in this cases.

Thank you joe! Good to know. Another question along the same lines, Doesnt the 81-84 ATC250R clutch basket and whatnot exchange with the CR250 parts? I know the fibers are the same but not sure on the basket and gear combo. I have a 79 motor that i am trying to build up as a spare, and it is in rough shape.

don´t know, maybe it has an other amount of tooth at the gear.
if so and the basket is the same you can bore out the rivets and change the gear.
at UK someone sells alubaskets at ebay.

many many years ago i didn´t get one here in germany, so i machined one by myself.
a little different design but works now for about 15 years. :D

WOW, nice work!! I did a check, the ATC basket has 65 teeth, 1979 CR250 backet has 79 teeth. They are the same in that respect. I bet it would work!
