Ok after reading about them I took the plunge. Bought a 82 CR250 triple clamp and had a 79 steering stem pressed into it. Got new bearings. Bought a 1983 CR480 forks, Wheel and Brake Plate and Axle. I am waiting for some Race Tech parts, but I had to put the forks on and the wheel, only to find out that the 83 axle will not fit, oh it screws in, but only 1 or 2 threads come out for the nut to attach to.

The guy that sold me the axle and brake plate claims I have an issue with the 82 triple clamp and that is what is throwing off the fitment of the axle. If this is indeed the problem, that sucks!!

My question is, does the axle only thread into the left fork leg, or should there be a axle nut on there also?

The left-hand fork leg is threaded and when the axle is screwed all the way in you should have maybe 1/2" of the axle sticking out. Do the axle up, then pump the forks, then tighten the axle clamp on the right-hand side.
