Hi everone I am new to this forum. I just bought a vintage 1981 Elsinore dirt bike.This is my first 2 syroke engine larger than 32cc but I do have experience on working with engines of all kinds but far from a pro. It has been sitting for six years so I wondering what I need to do to it after being stored for that long. It runs great thought the gas is 6 years old in the tank. I fixed the dryrot fuel lines already and will change the plug this week. My questions are;
-Does the 3/4 gallon of old gas need to be drained or can I run the gas out?
-Does the transmition oil need to be changed?
-Anything you recomend I do else?
Thanks in advance

after 6 years, the gas is almost definately bad. You may want to clean the carb too. I don't have a whole lot of experience though.

Clean the carb and tank out. Change the tranny oil, clean air filter. Grease all the bearings up lube the cables and ride!

I changed the plug and got rid of that old gas and an imediate increase in performance. Thanks for thebreplys. On the airbox on the bike the cover has broke off. Anybody know what I can do to put it back on? I ran the bike for about 1 1/2 hours with the old gas when I got it so I hope that didnt hurt it. I think I might hold off on the carb clean for now as it does run very well already but I do have some seafoam in the gas to help with that.

I think I worked out a way to put the cover back on. Trans oil has been changed and cables are oiled too. All I need is to find a new air cleaner element. I also looking for some riding gear for the trails. Anyone recomend certain brands or equipment? I noticed there is some sort of oil/gas coming from the exhaust where it meets the engine and drips overnight or while the bike is sitting. Its a dark black clor and runs down the frame then fall off the bottom. It has increased since I cleaned all the grime off that area of the engine and wear the engine bolts to frame. Anyone know what is causing this? Thanks
