This is my BAD AZZ Shinobi water cooled head kitted Elsie at Mid Ohio many years ago (yes I had it approved by Jeff Smith for AHRMA use) there were not many bikes that would outrun my Elsie.
I do remember a fast elsie owned by Scott Steger from Cali, he commented that my bike was the only other Elsie that holeshotted his.

The Shinobi kit needed ALLOT of trial and error to get it working. It was distributed by Noguchi in Georgia, there was a guy who ran a yamaha 125 ( his name I cannot remember ) with the kit on his and he knew all about them since he worked for them. Also, Barry Higgins from H&H knew allot about them and their timeline in racing.
The kit worked well once I got all the bugs worked out, I ran a Mugen cylinder, DH reed and either a 32 or 34 mikuni depending on the track speed. It did really well on long hot races and at tracks like Unadilla and Southwick where the engine is at its max.

The guy you are talking about whose name you couldn't recall...would that be Dennis Hall? Crystal Champion and her brother also raced 125 Noguchi Yamahas for Noguchi. Dennis and Crystal started on either side of me in the fall of 1975 at Razor Ridge Motocross Track in Augusta, Georgia. They both had front number plates drilled full of holes with a black box behind them. It was the first radiator I had seen on a motocross bike and that was months before Bob Hannah appeared on his water cooled works OW 27!

I had to refer to my archives for the answer, His name was Robert Liemenstol.
My Shinobi kit had the proper round front number plate.
