I took the springs off my shocks to start repainting. The shocks aren't leaking but I can push the arm in and out pretty easy. How can I tell if they are worn out? If worn out, what do you suggest for a replacement? There are some NOS XL350 shocks on ebay. I'm wondering if those would fit?

Thanks for helping with my money pit....

I did the exact same thing on my 125. I could push them in with very little effort but it was noticably harder to pull them back out.

I read the shop manual and i think that is the way they work. Unless i misunderstood it, they are supposed to work more on the rebound and the spring is for the shock /compression effect.

looks like they can be taken apart from the diagrams in the manual. but i did'nt go any farther then taking the springs off to paint.

that is the job of the shocks and they dampen spring rate.they should push in fairly easy and be noticeably harder to pull out.

Progressive Suspension makes shocks for a 74 MT250 and they are a good shock but they won't look stock.
