I'm in the middle of restoring a 83 honda cr480. i race the grand prixs here in calif. and notice the 480 didn't have alot on the top end.. would a larger carb. help out with top end? any other mods. to help the top? i've heard a carb. off a 85 or 86 cr500 (flat slide) would help and also unhooking the blue wire from the cdi box would increases top end or more rev. any suggestions??

thanks jim

Contact http://www.vintageiron.com. I believe Rick Doughty can set you up with a Mikuni flat slide for this bike. I have a 1983 CR480R and it has plenty of top-end, but the stock jetting for the 38mm Keihin was way off. I am also running a Pro-Form Racing pipe and silencer. There are plenty of guys racing SoCal historic motocross who can simply haul on this bike. I race the Elsinore GP and stick the 480 in with the modern bikes. It has plenty of power even compared to the new bikes, but getting it slowed down at the end of the fast bits can be a bit character-building. See you in November?

...you can also get the Moto Tassarin V-Force reed valve from a '87 CR250R to fit this bike.

thanks michael, i was told about the flat slide carb. from a 86-89 model would work. i got one of rick's pipe and plan on buying a pro-form silencer. still putting it back together, will have to sort out jetting later. not sure about november. too fast, too much money. i stick to the dist. 37 gp's.

later, jim

Will the 87 CR250 V Force reed valve fit the 84 CR500>
Meaning if the reed fits the CR480 will it also fit the CR500.

Is this a higher flow reed or stronger bottom end ??
