I have a 1982 CR480 and I been thinking about getting a new silencer. On eBay I have seen new DG silencer for a 1981-82 CR480. The stock CR480 silencer has two bracket supports that bolts to the sub-frame. The DG silencer only has one bracket support that is on top of the silencer. Has anyone seen or have used the DG silencer with only one support and did it support the pipe good when it was hooked up. Thanks for your help!

I think what you have seen is a silencer developed for the '83 model which only had one mount at the top, and relied on a separate clamp at the front to clamp silencer to mid-pipe, and both to the frame. Nonetheless I would say you could get away with a single clamp.

thanks for the help, all the 1982 CR480 DG silencer are made with only one support bracket. I called the guy that sell them and he called DG and the 81-82 silencer is made that way. I may shop around or just repack the stock silencer. On Service Honda website it shows that they still have a stock silencer for sell for $83 and I may just buy another one.

jcm922 'ME' bidded on your CR480 fender and I can kick my butt that I didn't bid higher than $46, I thought I had it won until the last few seconds. My fender is in good shape but it would have been good to have another one. Let me know if you have anymore 1982 CR480 parts are know someone that wants to sell the hard to find parts.

Am hoping to start rebuilding the CR480 after New Years or Feb. The rear spokes have some rust on them and the stock pipe has been repainted and it looks like they painted over some rust. How would you clean the pipe and get the rust off before its repainted and what would you do with the rust on the spokes. Have a great Holiday!

I've been cleaning up some old spokes on an extra wheel. I've been using scotch brite and/or 00 steel wool and gun oil. Coat the spoke with gun oil and put some on the steel wool. Scrub gently. Wipe often with clean rag. If you see brown on the rag, you still have some rust. For stuborn spots, work on it a little each day, leaving oil on it overnight to continue loosening the rust. There may be better ways, but I am using stuff I already have.
If I had naval Jelly, I'd be tempted to try it, but if my memory serves me correctly, it might leave pitted area where rust was and you might still have to use oil/steel wool to polish the spoke.

Jerry, Just so you know, just because Service Honda shows that part,it does not mean that they have it. They will put your order in, sometimes even put you on a B/O list but chances are you'll never see the part. Check out http://www.westernhillshonda.com or http://www.cmsnl.com/ . They at times have unusual and hard to get NOS parts. After I was searching almost 10 years, Terry at Western Hills finally found a part I needed and it was at current Honda list price. Gary

Both these folks expose their inventory on-line so it will tell you really if they have the part....
