I know that there are A,B,C,D,E and F ignitions for the 1978/79 CR 250s, and I know the "E" ignition is the one to have but the question I have is Why, what's the difference between all these ignitions?

A long time ago there was some information floating around that suggested the Honda team of the day selected the E ignition for the works bikes. This introduced its celebrity status.

Good question Magoo!, I was only talking to a mate of mine the other night about this, something about the advance curve?

How do you tell if you have an "E" ignition??
I was cleanning up my cdi box yesterday and it has an E stamped into the mounting flange.
Does that "E" mean anything???

You have an E CDI box. There should also be an E stamped on a square tab on the rotor cover, and an E stamped on the back of the rotor itself. It is far more important that the three parts are matched, than to have one specific combination over the other...
