I am shopping for a new evo bike to run in the WORCS series and i found a 83 CR250. I can run a 1984 but the 83 seems to be a decent deal. Let me know any plus's or minus's you guys may know of. thanks!!

On this board, and at http://www.cr500riders.com this problem has been discussed. It is possible to repair the corrosion and then use a spray coating from Devcon to protect the case from the coolant in the future. There is also a special coolant for magnesium block engines that prevents this type of damage.

The bad:

Waterpump Corrosion Has been discussed already. I will add that Evans Coolant should be used. Most GOOD dealerships have this in stock.

Clogged Radiators Because of the corrosion in the WP area.

Suspension Even if the shock has dampening make sure the clickers WILL turn. Most won't. Check linkage. Some parts are not available OEM. No aftermarket either. The are bushings not bearings. Insert zerk fittings. Forks If you can get away with it slide in a front end from an 88 CR250. They are the best. At a minimum use a 86. (first yr. for cartridge forks)

Chain Defense Sliders
Check these because they are not avail. OEM. But can be had overseas. (Australia)

The Good:

Everything Else!!

Hope this helps!

Sliders available from Red Devil Racing. Shock rebuild and anodizing from Rich Truinski at Tru Technologies. Springs from Eibach.
